Turkmenistan, a growing sulphur origin
Turkmen sulphur is recovered from gas and oil processing at the country’s refineries. It is traded on the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange (SCRMET): in 2022, companies from Turkey and Afghanistan bought 60,000 tonnes of technical granulated sulphur from Türkmengaz there, according to Business Turkmenistan. The country also holds native sulphur deposits, the largest near Magdanly in Lebap province, according to the official Turkmen oil and gas portal.
For you, this origin is an alternative to Gulf sulphur, whose shipments depend on the Strait of Hormuz.
Shipping via the Caspian Sea or by rail
The port of Turkmenbashi opens the Caspian Sea route, and rail serves neighbouring countries and connections to other ports. Under FOB, the buyer takes over freight from loading; under CFR, we arrange transport to the port of destination. Sulphur travels in bulk or in big bags depending on volume and destination.
