Asphalt combines aggregates and a bituminous binder to form the wearing and structural courses of a road. Its service life, its resistance to rutting and its ageing behaviour depend directly on the bitumen used. A poor binder, and cracks appear well before the expected lifespan\u2014with maintenance costs that unbalance a project's entire budget.<\/p>\n
